Poets' Society

Ever since I started SZ Magazine in 1994 people have been asking me to include poetry in the magazine. It was clear to me then (and still is) that poetry played an important part in the lives of many people with mental illness, but unfortunately, it just never seemed to fit right with magazine content.

We’ve recently re-launched our Website, and I knew it was the perfect place to showcase poetry from the mental health community. In a recent “Your Partner in Mental Wellness” e-newsletter, we put out a call to all poets, asking them to submit their poems for inclusion on our Website. I expected we would receive a lot, but…wow! The response was overwhelming.

A flood of poems arrived in my email inbox. Some people sent in one or two, while others sent in pages of poetry. I am so pleased to see that so many people are responding to this new section of our Website, and I really look forward to reading all the poems and sharing them with others. Most of all, I’m glad the mental health community can put their time and energy into creating something great, and that our Website is a vehicle to share it with the world.

If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look at the new poetry section on our Website. If you’re moved to submit a poem of your own, please do so. I enjoy hearing from people and reading their creative thoughts.
