Magpie Media is dedicated to providing inspiration and information for the mental health community about the road to recovery. Magpie provides a wide variety of products and services for consumers, caregivers, medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies, and associations throughout North America. The company was incorporated in March 1994 by Bill MacPhee as a means to provide hope and information for those wanting to achieve mental wellness. The company has grown tremendously in a few short years and now has many different outlets that provide valuable information to those affected by mental illness.
SZ Magazine For more than 15 years, Magpie has been publishing SZ Magazine for the schizophrenia community. The magazine offers inspiration and information so that individuals with the illness, their caregivers, and medical professionals can work together towards recovery. SZ Magazine is targeted directly to those who are living with and affected by mental illness to provide them with the latest news, medications, and resources. The magazine currently reaches hundreds of thousands of people across North America each year and is constantly growing and expanding its horizons to provide content to more people.
Anchor Magazine In 2007, Magpie Media launched Anchor, a magazine about conquering depression, to provide life-changing information and hope to those coping with the illness in both Canada and the United States. Anchor is in the process of transitioning its content to an interactive online format at anchormag.com and anchormag.ca.
Publishing Services Magpie offers publishing services for public, private and non-profit organizations in the mental health field. Examples of publications include Making Research Real, and A Reason to Hope, both of which are produced for the Schizophrenia Society of Ontario. These publications specifically target the mental health community and bring the latest news and research to the people who will benefit from it.
Digital PlatformsMagpie also reaches the schizophrenia community through its online platforms szmagazine.com and szmagazine.ca. These sites share up-to-date editorials about research, medications, stories of hope, and more through written and video content. The sites also incorporate social media components such as a blog, in which Bill MacPhee exchanges opinions on mental health news with readers. The site is also leveraged to distribute questionnaires/surveys and regular email newsletters to more than 6,000 e-newsletter recipients. With four different e-newsletters, new information concerning schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression can be sent directly to those in need of the information. There is also a psychiatrist’s newsletter to send new information concerning medications, research, and guidance directly to the medical professionals who have patients dealing with mental illness.

Advocacy ServicesBill MacPhee knows first-hand the importance of medication. Bill also knows that open access is a must when getting medications covered by government programs.
